OUR STORY

In the 1970s, two acts of historic ambition arrived together: Mexico formally secured the Tequila Denomination of Origin - the legal protection that declared tequila could only be made in Mexico, placing it alongside Champagne, Cognac, Scotch and Irish Whiskey as one of the world’s great protected spirit categories. And Juan Beckmann Vidal, the man who had fought to make that recognition possible, launched 1800® Añejo: the world’s first official 100% agave aged tequila.

1800 takes its name from the year the Beckmann family - 10th-generation descendants of the original tequila family - first placed tequila in barrels. The experimentation with oak barrels was a long-standing family practice, passed down through the generations, and that curiosity spurred a new philosophy: that tequila, given time and the right conditions, deserved the same cultural prestige, craftsmanship, and aging philosophy as the finest spirits in the world.

Today, 1800 is the ‘World’s Most Awarded Tequila’ Family, and every expression crafted, every award earned, and every innovation pursued remains guided by that same uncompromising philosophy. It is the standard Juan Beckmann Vidal set when he created 1800® Tequila. His image and signature on every label are a permanent reminder of the man and the obsession that made it possible.

1800® NAME

1800®, the original Super-Premium 100% agave tequila, takes its name from a time when our family secured the license to share our tequila with the world.

BOTTLE SHAPE

Our bottles are an ode to the Mayan pyramids found throughout Mexico. The bold trapezoidal shape, like the history of tequila, withstands the test of time.

BRAND

The name of our brand, the variant, and the year tequila was first aged in oak casks.
